This Friday, the 19th of November, the winners of RICS Young Surveyor of the Year award will be announced.
Earlier this year, Senior Building Surveyor Christian Watkins impressed the panel after showing his dedication towards fire safety in building surveying, leading him to be shortlisted for this prestigious award. This Friday the winners will be announced in a ceremony held in London.
Christian took to the specialism of fire safety after watching the tragic events of Grenfell unfold in 2017. Since, he has become a senior member of our fire consultancy service, working on various projects including the Hyde residential scheme in London, in which he also took time to monitor juniors in the basic skills for surveying fire stopping and cladding installations.
Christian also spends time providing insight for peers on fire safety in online magazines and national journals, his voice is a necessary one highlighting failures and educating on change.
When looking at Christian’s achievements, it will be surprising to learn that he took an unconventional path into building surveying, despite having no A-levels, he impressively graduated with a first class degree, achieved RICS status in the shortest time possible and gained seniority by becoming the most qualified non-director to manage fire safety.
On the night Christian will be joined by Jamie Clark (Leeds), Oliver Davison (Leeds), Cameron McMaster (Leeds) and Tom Cansfield (Bristol), we hope you all have a fantastic evening!
