We express our full support for the key messages delivered by Dame Judith Hackitt at the recent Sir James Wates Lecture. We believe that the comments are crucial for driving meaningful change and enhancing the safety of buildings for occupants and the public.

Dame Hackitt, whose ground breaking Independent Review of Building Regulations and Fire Safety following the Grenfell Tower tragedy has been instrumental in driving significant change within the construction industry, emphasized the continued need for vigilance and improvement in building safety practices and for behavioural change.

We are committed to a safety-first culture among our employee owners and clients. We provide comprehensive safety training programmes, conduct regular safety audits, and prioritise the implementation of best practices across all projects. We encourage all stakeholders in the construction industry, including developers, contractors, architects, surveyors, engineers, and regulators, to carefully consider the findings of the Hackitt Report, including the message of taking our responsibilities as construction professionals seriously and taking concrete steps to implement its recommendations. We believe that through collaborative efforts and a shared commitment to safety, we can create a safer built environment for all.

“The safety of building occupants and the public is paramount,” says Darron Owen. “We are committed to working with our clients and industry partners to implement the latest safety standards and technologies to ensure that the buildings we design, refurbish and construct are safe, resilient, and sustainable.”

“We have worked hard to build and maintain a culture of safety, providing training and continued CPD for all our employee owners, whilst obtaining and maintaining various safety accreditations as a business. Our journey is ongoing as requirements evolve, but we will continue to meet the standards, aiming to go above and beyond them, wherever possible”.
