Kitsmead Recycling Centre

Despite a number of global issues and the liquidation of the principal contractor, Kitsmead Recycling Centre has been re-developed to provide a site providing modern industrial and office facilities.

The facilities have been enhanced via the installation of an increased electrical supply and a re-furbished access road and entrance area.

Via extensive civil engineering works the site has been taken from largely made up ground, a large proportion of which was vacant, to provide a fully occupied industrial development, with extensive and extended service yard space. The yard has been constructed around a new double storey head quarters office building and 2No. industrial buildings, one of which has been extended and both of which have been refurbished from the original shell/structural frame.

Despite the issues identified above, the project was completed within the client’s available funding and to the client’s full satisfaction.

Trident has been re-engaged to project manage the redevelopment of an adjacent site, as Phase 2.

Our Role
Key Issues
  • Availability of materials linked to supply issues associated with the break out of war in Ukraine and the outbreak of the Covid Pandemic.
  • A need to hand over the project in a phased arrangement due to delays associated with global issues.
  • Main contractors went in to voluntary liquidation shortly after PC, leaving snagging works to be arranged via an alternative approach.
  • Remedial works requirement relating to fire protection of the steel frame, requiring specialist testing and chartered fire engineering input.
  • Extension of elevated yard via ground stabilisation and re-grading of embankment.
