It’s National Apprenticeship Week 2026! Over the past few years, we’ve loved sharing insights and stories from our apprentices at Trident. It’s been fantastic to follow their journeys and celebrate the many benefits apprenticeships bring to both the individuals and the business.

This year’s theme is ‘Skills for Life,’ and there’s no better way to showcase the skills our apprentices have mastered than by sharing what they get up to day to day. We asked Sam Pettifor, an apprentice in our London office, to take us along for a typical day surveying.

I caught the early morning train to get on-site before the rush.

I kicked the day off by meeting with my colleague and our client to discuss the survey details. We then carried out a Schedule of Condition in order to limit the liability of the client for damage that occurs to the roads during the construction phase of their new build block.

“Next, I grabbed a coffee while I sat in on a meeting and caught up on some emails.

“After that, I headed across London to Kentish Town via the Tube for my second site visit of the day, this time for a drone survey!”

I met up with my colleague and first, we unpacked the drone and carried out the essential pre-flight safety checks. This survey was for a Building Inspection Report and a Schedule of Condition for a client who was in the process of undertaking a leasehold interest in a property to advise on whether they should sign the lease in its current state, and to limit their liability under the lease.”

Survey complete! We headed back to the office to start the desk work and begin writing up the reports from the morning’s site visits. We made sure to stop for a much-needed lunch break at Salad Project on the way.

Back at my desk to work on GoReport, writing up my report and documenting my findings from this morning.

“We ended the day with an office social which included pizzas in the office!”

“Home time! I captured this view of The Shard while walking across London Bridge on my way to the station.”

Thanks to Sam for giving us insight into his day. From on-site surveys to writing up reports using software like GoReport, Sam’s day perfectly illustrates how apprenticeships provide the ‘Skills for Life’ needed to thrive in our industry.
