At Trident, we’re proud to use our expertise in ways that make a meaningful difference. Through being cornerstone partners of LandAid, we recently had the opportunity to support Pedestrian, a Leicester based charity that transforms the lives of vulnerable and disadvantaged children through creativity.
The project gave our Birmingham team the chance to provide pro bono support on the transformation of Pedestrian’s site, helping create a space designed to inspire and support young people across Leicester and beyond.
Since 1998, Pedestrian has supported young people across Leicestershire through education, outreach and training. Its work helps children and young people up to the age of 25 build confidence, develop new skills and access opportunities that may otherwise feel out of reach.
We first became involved in this project through LandAid’s pro bono programme, following a request for support with the transformation of Pedestrian’s site in Leicester city centre.
Our Birmingham team was pleased to support the project, with Jaye Camacho leading Trident’s involvement under the supervision of Darron Owen. For Jaye, one of the newer members of our team, it was a valuable opportunity to take the lead on a project with clear community impact.
We provided contract administration services on a pro bono basis, including pre contract liaison with the contractor, agreeing contract terms, assessing contractor proposals and applications for payment, certification and snagging. Drawing on Jaye’s master’s degree in planning, the team was also able to provide planning advice as part of its support.
As the works were funded through donations and fundraising, careful cost management was essential. The team worked closely with Pedestrian’s representatives and the contractor to review options, value engineer where required and ensure the available funding could deliver the necessary works while meeting the relevant regulations.
The completed facility has transformed the space available to Pedestrian, creating a flexible facility that includes offices, recording studios, exhibition space, toilets and kitchen facilities. This will help the charity continue its important work with young people, and, for us, the project reflects the value of sharing our expertise in a way that directly benefits the communities we work in.
We were delighted to hear that Jaye, and the teams work was recognised in a very special way, with Pedestrian choosing to name one of its recording studios after us. It was a gesture that meant a great deal to the team and reflected the value placed on the support provided.
We are proud to have played a small part in helping Pedestrian create a space where young people can feel inspired, supported and able to explore their potential through creativity.
