Building and Fire Safety

Material Sampling and Testing Support

We manage material testing services to give clarity and confidence in situations where the fire performance of an external wall system is uncertain.

Material testing plays a critical role in understanding risk and informing next steps when a fire safety building inspection encounters materials and systems whose testing, composition, specification, or fire behaviour cannot be confirmed through records or visual inspection.

This service offers evidence-based insight to help building owners, duty holders, and managing agents to make informed decisions about the fire safety of buildings and their occupants.

Testing establishes the fire performance of external wall materials and systems under controlled conditions, by examining how fire may spread vertically and laterally over a façade when exposed to realistic fire scenarios. It offers reassurance around regulatory compliance or provides certainty over the need for remedial works.

Where materials of unknown type or fire performance are identified during an intrusive survey, samples are carefully taken. Working with accredited testing centres in the UK, we follow the recognised best practice methodologies for reaction to fire testing; BS 8414-1 and BS 8414-2.

Throughout the process, we work closely with all relevant parties to ensure testing is properly scoped, proportionate, and aligned with the wider fire safety assessment. The resulting evidence can support fire risk assessments, regulatory submissions, lender requirements, and of course, ultimately keeping people safe.
