Our team recognise that everything we do has an impact on our local communities. In 2022, they asked for the opportunity to give back their time, and in response we launched our CSR day initiative.
Through this initiative, we empower each of our teams to volunteer with a charity of their choice, and in the past 12 months we’ve given over 230 hours of our time back to our local areas. Here’s a sneak peek at what we have been up to:
Edinburgh: Leuchie House
Last August, our Edinburgh team hung up their hard hats and upped tools as they spent the day at Leuchie House National Respite Centre.
Leuchie House provides short breaks with 24 hour expert nursing care for those living with and affected by MS and other long term conditions.
The team spent the day laying garden stones for the new therapy room and even had time to paint it. It was a fantastic day, and it wasn’t just about the physical work – it was about experiencing the incredible impact Leuchie House makes. Peter Fortune, head of the Edinburgh team, put it perfectly:
“Leuchie House is an amazing place that offers respite holidays for over 300 people every year. They specialise in the care of guests with neurological conditions and what really impressed me was how they are at the forefront of using technology to create solutions for each individual to help them after their holiday and in their day to day lives. We hope our little bit of help in creating a rockery and painting the new summer house will be enjoyed by the guests”.
Birmingham: Warley Woods Community Trust
In October, our Birmingham team volunteered with Warley Woods Community Trust.
The Trust was set up to restore and manage Warley Woods, a grade 2 status, 100 acre community park, woodlands and golf course just outside of Birmingham city centre. The Trust maintains and develops its facilities and events to engage with the local community.
The team spent the day clearing one of the entrances and surrounding pavements of the woods and golf course. It was a great day, working together to help maintain such a great location in the local community. Here’s what Darron Owen, head of our Birmingham team had to say:
“It was a really good team building activity, with all 9 of the Birmingham team working together to deliver what the community trust had asked for. Everyone put in a shift, and we really made a difference, as the before and after photos show”
Leeds: RSPB St Aiden’s
On Halloween, our Leeds office volunteered with the wonderful team at the RSPB reserve at St Aiden’s.
Getting into the Halloween spirit, the team spent the day building a ‘dead’ hedge, which helps section off areas of the reserve as well as providing hiding places and nesting habitats for various animals and insects.
Despite the weather being far from ideal, the team worked together to process the branches, cutting them into different lengths and separating them out into various sizes. They then built the hedge by weaving the branches between log stakes and stuffing the gaps with smaller bits of foliage.
The RSPB works to promote the conservation and protection of birds and the wider environment, maintaining over 200 reserves across the UK.
Liverpool: Bridge Water Canal Clean up
In November, our Liverpool team swapped their distos for litter pickers, as they joined in the Bridgewater Canal Clean up.
With canals seeing tonnes of litter dumped in them every year, the Clean Up, which is organised by a local charity, helps to protect the environment and the creatures who live in and around the canal. Danny, Cameron, and Ella, along with other volunteers collected 246.5 Kg of rubbish in just a few hours.
Bristol: Paul’s Place
This spring, our Bristol team spent the day volunteering with the wonderful team at Paul’s Place.
Paul’s Place is a fantastic charity that enhances life for physically disabled adults, by providing social activities that connect people, reduce isolation, improve health and wellbeing and give people the opportunity to develop new skills and enjoy new experiences.
The team helped clear out old storage sheds, organise the contents, and take them apart. It was a fantastic day, helping a great charity.
