Trident was appointed by the client to diagnose the cause of structural movement to the pier walls on the front elevation. Displaced blockwork was observed where the pier walls rose above roof level. Trident reviewed the building’s as-built drawings and noted that the structural steel inside the wall cavity appeared to stop at roof level instead of continuing to the full height of the piers. Trident confirmed this was the cause of the movement by attending site and removing a number of blocks to inspect the cavity. We then worked in conjunction with a structural engineer to propose a scheme of remedial works.
Trident was then instructed to provide contract administration services for the remedial works. The works consisted of dismantling the blockwork piers above roof level and adding additional structural support, in addition to helibar repairs to the blockwork and installation of heavy duty wall ties. Trident successfully managed the works, working closely with the client, occupants, contractor and structural engineer. The project was completed on time and within budget.
