Heritage

Traditional buildings differ from modern ones in their methods and materials of construction. At Trident, we understand these differences. Your building doesn’t have to be listed to be loved, though. In fact, we provide the same level of quality and dedication to any heritage buildings across all sectors.

Grade I, II or II* listed buildings are properties of special architectural or historic interest and have certain legal protections to conserve them. Buildings that are listed therefore require consent for any work above and beyond general maintenance and repair.

We can help you obtain consent by producing Heritage Impact Assessments for submission with the Listed Building Consent application. We offer building conservation advice and can also consult with Conservation Officers to ensure everything runs smoothly. This is vital as carrying out any work without consent is a criminal offence, no matter how minor the changes.

We can advise on all aspects of conservation and refurbishment including contract administration and project management. Our team will help you overcome the key obstacles and consider all the following:

  • Applying to local planning with detailed drawings, heritage statements and justifications.
  • Specialist materials and craftspeople with conservation experience.
  • Structural and damp remedial work aligning with conservation principles.
  • Limitations on energy efficiency improvements, extensions and conversions.

Sensitively retaining and reusing our built heritage can save tonnes of embodied energy making it easier to reach ESG targets. Vacant or underutilised buildings can be sympathetically adapted for a multitude of uses.
