2023 has been a year like no other for Trident, with exciting changes across the business that have benefited both our team and our clients. We’ve also had some great success stories that highlight our achievements. Here’s our 2023, year in review:
Starting the year off on a high:
We started the year off as we meant to go on, having three big announcements in January.
Trident was awarded Investors in People Gold, a massive achievement with only 23% of 50,215 companies assessed reaching gold status.
The accreditation recognised the continued commitment to our people, and we have been using the feedback to build upon our offering to continue to make Trident an even better place to work. With our sights on Platinum in the future, watch this space!
Also, in January we announced we had set our science-based targets, after participating in Grosvenor’s SME mentoring programme and we began our Partnership with BAME in Property.
We’ve loved working with BAME in Property this year. They helped us establish our Equality Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) committee, made up of volunteers from around the business.
A priority for the committee was raising awareness for and creating conversations around various events throughout the year, such as International Women’s Day, Stress Awareness Month, Diwali and South Asian Heritage Month.
One of our favourites so far was the companywide fasting day for Ramadan. Everyone was invited to fast for just one day, to experience what it’s like for our Muslim colleagues and clients who fast for 30 days, before coming together in the evening to break the fast together. London team moved home:
Spring saw our flagship London office move home. Thanks to our wonderful clients, the team had outgrown their current workplace and moved to a more modern space that matched our ambition.
Watch the video below to have a look around and if you’re passing, pop in and say hello.

Becoming a chartered building Surveyor
In 2023 we invested in over 1300 hours of training for Team Trident. Everyone completed time management and EDI training, as well as multiple CPD sessions relevant to their positions.
We have several graduates and apprentices based across our offices, and its important to us to have a programme in place to support them on their journey to become chartered.
Therefore, a key date in our training calendar is our annual APC training day. Held in our London office, all our graduates and apprentices get together for valuable in person training and a chance to build their network of support as they work towards their APC. Since then, a few of our graduates have sat their APC, and are now Chartered Building Surveyors, giving us a 2023 pass rate of 100%.
We’ve also had a number of work experience and placement students across our offices and It’s great to meet people with an interest in the sector we love.
Struan Roberston, one of our recent work placement students has now joined our Edinburgh team full time this December as an Assistant Building Surveyor after successfully completing his university studies. Trident turns proudly 25
2023 has been the start of an exciting new chapter for Trident as we turned proudly 25. As part of our 25 celebrations, we launched our new values, letting you know what they mean to us, and what commitment they mean to you, our clients. To find out more, visit out Trident proudly 25 webpage.
Around this time, we took the opportunity to give the Trident brand a slight update, updating our website to better reflect who we are in 2023. You can explore our website, here.
A part of these changes is our recent announcement, that one of Trident’s founders, Trevor Dowd is stepping back from his leading role, handing over the reigns to the board, and our Managing Director, Daniel Roe.
However, life won’t be any less busy for Trevor, as he has agreed to stay on as a consultant to the board and to Trident, offering his invaluable expertise where necessary. To hear from Trevor about his new role, click here.
Award Season:
The second half of the year is Awards season in the Property Industry, and we have been delighted by the number of awards we have been shortlisted for. These include:
- EOA Awards – Employee Owner of the Year
- LandAid Awards- Partner of the Year
- South West Business Masters – Employers Award – WINNER
- Building Awards – Employer of the Year
- EG wards – Employer Award.
- Yorkshire Business Awards 2024 – Employer of the Year
- West Midlands Business Awards 2024 – Employer of the Year
Our Bristol team were thrilled to bring home the trophy for the Employers Award at the South West Business Masters, as it is recognition of all our hard work since becoming an EOT which places people, #TeamTrident and our clients at the centre of everything we do, not just in Bristol but throughout Trident.
A special nomination we received was from LandAid. 2023 was our first year being a foundation partner of LandAid, after raising over £10’000 for them in 2022. We are on our way to beat this in 2023 after talking part in multiple events such as the SleepOut, Yorkshire Quiz, Christmas card Alternative and Tour de LandAid, which Trident was a headline sponsor of.

Giving Back
Our activities with LandAid are just one way we give back to our local communities, taking part in multiple charity events throughout the year, such as the Bristol Property Association Bowels event and Grosvenor Dragon Boat Race in summer.
2023 saw the launch of our team volunteering days, where each office gets to volunteer with a local charity of their choice as part of our ESG commitments.
Some highlights from the year include our Leeds team building dead hedges with RSPB St Aidans, Liverpool swapping their hard hats for litter pickers joining in the Bridgewater Canal Cleanup, Birmingham spending the day with Warley Woods Community Trust and Edinburgh helping Leuchie House National Respite Centre laying garden stones for their new therapy room.
Trident Day
Our annual Trident Day, see’s everyone come together in person to celebrate the last 12 months and look ahead to the future. The day alternates between our office locations, and in 2023 we met up in London.
We spent the morning listening to business updates from The Board, followed by an afternoon exploring the city, completing various challenges and, in the evening, we battled it out at Boom Battle Bar.
Trident day is always a highlight in our calendar, which most importantly offers us the opportunity to catch up with everyone from around the business.
Events and Insights
Our surveyors love surveying and welcome the opportunity to meet others from our industry, and discuss on-going trends and projects. We’ve attended multiple industry events this year including MPIM, UKREiiF, EOA conference, and RICS Building Surveying Conference as well as several regional events.
